IsoTOF
DOWNLOAD IsoTOF Example
This is a demonstration model of a planar multi-reflecting Time-of-Flight analyzer
This example illustrates a new approach for design of time-of-flight systems. Unlike conventional systems, where motion of ions is isochronous in only one (flight) direction, this new system has a property of isochronous motion in the orthogonal (drift) direction as well. The approach, applied here for design of multi-reflecting time-of-flight system, is based on planar mirrors with zig-zag like trajectories.
The idea of the IsoTOF is to create a combination of two electrostatic fields
where the first field is optimised to ensure a space-energy focusing in the X flight direction. The second field focuses ions in the Z drift direction. As a result, the ion beam undergoes a multi-reflection motion in the X direction before it is reflected back and focused to the detector in the drift direction.
Such a configuration of the electrostatic field is disclosed by US20100044558 patent.
All parts for the whole model in this demonstration have been created in SIMION. These include: ion mirror, ion source with axial ejection, ion deflectors, and ion detector (as a solid box).
Next, all parts of the assembly have been uploaded to SIMAX as separate workbenches (WBs). Then, the respective potential arrays (PAs) have been assigned to every workbench.
